Big Space Cancer Appeal Launches to Transform Regional Cancer Care

Gloucestershire’s role as a leading regional cancer centre is set to be strengthened with a new £17.5 million state-of-the-art facility at Cheltenham General Hospital. The Big Space Cancer Appeal, launched by Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity working alongside the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, will make this innovative facility a reality, modernising care for thousands of patients across Gloucestershire and beyond.

As a designated Regional Cancer Centre, the hospital provides specialist cancer services to a population of over one million people, serving Gloucestershire, Hereford and South Worcestershire, offering the latest treatments, research trials, and multidisciplinary care. However, many of the current facilities are over 25 years old and a new modern building is needed to care for future generations.

The first phase of the project is to build a new space at Cheltenham General Hospital to improve the environment inside and out for patients and staff. The new centre will feature modern consulting rooms, cutting-edge digital technology, and a therapeutic garden, creating a calming and welcoming space for patients. As part of the appeal, future upgrades to existing oncology facilities will also ensure the hospital remains at the forefront of cancer care in the region.

Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity Associate Director, Richard Smith, said: “The Big Space Cancer Appeal has a very ambitious target, but for a reason – to create this inspiring, state-of-the-art centre over and above what the NHS can provide alone.

With more than half of the funds raised, the appeal is now seeking the community’s support to help it reach the £17.5 million target.
